Established in 1946, WOON is Woonsocket's first radio
station and carries through, to the present day, the tradition
of professionalism established by our founders.
We are the market's only full-time, full power broadcast
service, on the air 24 hours every day.
Our non-directional signal reaches some 90,000 homes,
with an estimated 267,000 population (1990 Census.) Of that area,
we specialize in serving the Northern Rhode Island communities
of WOONSOCKET, NORTH SMITHFIELD, CUMBERLAND, LINCOLN, BURRILLVILLE,
and the Massachusetts communities of BELLINGHAM, BLACKSTONE, MILLVILLE,
UXBRIDGE, FRANKLIN, and a portion of WRENTHAM.
Many radio signals cover this region but WOON's programming
is so intensely localized, we give our local area attention to
local detail, at rates the larger stations could never offer.
WOON operates a news van that is full-time staffed
and radio equipped, delivering on-the-spot live local news.
We employ and have the exclusive services of Northern
Rhode Island's only local meteorologist, Arthur Cadoret, who has
been on WOON daily since 1956 and boasts an accuracy over 80%
for the local area. In addition to forecast updates, Arthur does
three 5-minute weather summaries daily.
We are a full-service station, sponsoring local charity
drives too numerous to mention. Our staff are members of Rotary,
Kiwanis, Elks, Jaycees and other local community betterment organizations.
WOON is a positive, traditional, and more youthful
AM station. We naturally attract people like us, generally 25-54
years old, who are a bit more up-scale, since positive thinking
people tend to think well of themselves and have better earning
power. This information is derived through our own market research.
