Just in Time for Summer: Blackstone Valley Adventure Packs
Helping You Explore Your Blackstone Valley
June 15, 2010 - Woonsocket, RI.
Just in time for summer family fun, the Museum of Work & Culture and
the John H. Chafee Blackstone River National Heritage Corridor announce
the introduction of six different Blackstone Valley Adventure Packs.
The Immigration Pack and the Valley Pack can be rented at the Museum of
Work & Culture and are filled with fun and educational activities such
as a scavenger hunt, old time games, and art projects along with books
and recipes.
The goal of these adventure packs is to help young people and their
families gain a new perspective of the Blackstone Valley’s history,
environment, cultural heritage and its industrial past all while having
fun and learning together. They are themed backpacks that are full of
fun activities, craft projects, information and more that families can
use to learn about our valley together. In addition, each pack has a
guide booklet and give-a-ways as well as maps, brochures and coupons. A
family can use a pack to plan a whole week of activities for a summer
adventure of their very own.
There are six different packs – the Nature Pack, The Worcester
History Pack, the Factory Town Pack, the Immigration Pack, the River
Pack and the Valley Pack. The Adventure Pack program also created a
“Blackstone Valley DeTour” map to highlight the sites where packs
can be rented and it also points out some of the wonderful public sites
where pack adventures could take place including the valley’s state
parks and the Blackstone River Bikeway. The maps are available at pack
rental sites, visitor information centers around the valley or visit
www.npw.gov/glac/forkids.
The Adventure Packs can be rented at the Museum of Work & Culture for
up to five days at a cost of $10 or at one of our partner sites.
