PAUL SHATRAW NAMED AUTUMNFEST GRAND MARSHAL

Woonsocket – Woonsocket Fire Chief Paul Shatraw has been named the Grand Marshal of Autumnfest 2017 Parade by the Autumnfest Steering Committee.

"It's quite unexpected and quite an honor," Shatraw said.  "It's something just huge in the city that everyone should gravitate toward. It's so fulfilling. I'm very much honored."

Shatraw, a 32-year veteran of the Woonsocket Fire Department, has been a volunteer at Autumnfest for more than 30 years.  He has been on the Autumnfest Steering committee initially as the youth athletics coordinator.  In later years he became known as the volunteer electrician for the event.

"The reason you were chosen is because you've dedicated many years to Autumnfest," said Autumnfest Steering Committee Chairperson Linda Plays, noting that Shatraw helps each year with the large task of setting up temporary lighting and electricity at World War II Memorial Park.

Shatraw along with his wife, Elise, will ride in the Autumnfest Parade that takes place Monday October 9, 2017.

Shatraw will also be honored at the Autumnfest Grand Marshal Reception.  That event will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. Ann Arts & Culture Center, 84 Cumberland, St., Woonsocket from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  Tickets for the Grand Marshal Reception are $15.00 per person or $25.00 per couple.  Tickets can be purchased by contacting Linda Plays, Autumnfest Parade Chairperson, at 401-263-8317.
