President Trump says Brett Kavanaugh is one of the finest human beings you could meet. Trump made the comments during a campaign rally in Las Vegas for U.S. Senator Dean Heller. Trump told the crowd that the sexual assault allegation needs to play out but Kavanaugh is a fine, fine person. A California professor has accused Kavanaugh of pinning her down and groping her when they were teens. Trump said he thinks everything will be fine because Kavanaugh is a high quality person.       Five people including an eight-year-old girl are being treated for gunshot wounds after a celebration of life became violent in Syracuse, New York last night. About two dozen people were gathered at a home to remember someone who had recently died of cancer. A witness claims that men wearing hoodies opened fire on the celebration from across the street, injuring five people. All the victims are in stable condition and expected to survive.        Governor Roy Cooper is calling for North Carolina lawmakers to return to Raleigh for a special session to fund recovery efforts from Hurricane Florence. Cooper called the destruction he's seen in the eastern half of the state historic and said now is the time to come together to begin rebuilding. He's calling on the General Assembly to convene on October 9th.        The prosecution is resting its case in the murder trial for a white Chicago police officer accused of shooting a black teenager 16 times. Prosecutors said the 2014 killing of Laquan McDonald was completely unnecessary and that race was a factor. Prosecutors added that the only thing Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke saw was a "black boy walking down the street" who had the "audacity to ignore the police." Van Dyke claims he shot McDonald after he swung a knife at him. However, dashcam video shows McDonald holding a knife at the side of his body, about 15 feet away from Van Dyke, and walking away from him.       Ticketmaster is pushing back on reports that it purposely sells tickets to scalpers. The Canadian Broadcasting Company reported that Ticketmaster was operating an invite-only platform that allowed scalpers to buy tickets in bulk and resell them at whatever price they like, and that Ticketmaster got a portion of the sales. The company says that's "categorically untrue."        The Los Angeles Kings are holding tryouts for an emergency backup goalie this weekend and the team is hoping to see one high-profile amateur put on the pads. Supermodel Chrissy Teigen raised the possibility in a tweet last June. Chrissy tweeted, "I feel like can absolutely be a hockey goalie." There's no word from Chrissy or the Kings whether she'll be trying out this weekend.
