On July 3, 2018, at approximately 1:20 pm, the North Smithfield Police Department was contacted for the report of a toddler locked in a vehicle while unattended. When officers arrived on scene, the vehicle was still running, with the keys in the ignition.

Patrolman Emanuel Avila was the first officer to arrive on scene, and attempted to open the doors to the vehicle. When Patrolman Avila realized that the vehicle was locked, he was forced to shatter both the driver’s side, and passenger’s side front windows. Officers were able to safely remove the toddler from the vehicle, and immediately had him assessed by rescue personnel. Once it was determined that the child was free of any serious injury, DCYF was contacted.

The suspect in this case was identified as 21 year old, Annelise Marie Ambert, of 75 High Street, Milford, Massachusetts. Ambert will make her initial appearance today, before a Justice of the Peace, and will be heard on the charge of cruelty or neglect of a child. When given the opportunity, Ambert declined to provide a statement to police.     

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is reportedly planning to step down in mid-March. An announcement on his replacement could happen as soon as this week. Rosenstein has been overseeing the Robert Mueller investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.        Sixteen states are joining forces to sue the Trump administration over the declaration of a national emergency on the southern border. President Trump declared the emergency last week, claiming it's necessary to build a wall to stop drug and human trafficking into the United States. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra says the emergency declaration is an overreach of power.        President Trump is addressing the political turmoil in Venezuela. In Miami Monday, President Trump said military leaders in Venezuela have a clear choice: support opposition leader Juan Guaido [[ gwy- DOH ]] as the legitimate president of Venezuela or face consequences. Trump said President Nicolás Maduro is a Cuban puppet who won't even allow aid to enter the country to feed people.        Former Trump adviser Roger Stone is apologizing to the judge in his case after posting a picture of her on social media. Stone is facing charges of witness tampering, obstruction and making false statements in connection with President Trump's 2016 campaign. The photo posted on his Instagram page showed Judge Amy Berman Jackson with a crosshair near her head. He later posted a statement saying that his photo had been misinterpreted and that he had taken what he called "a random photo taken from the Internet."        West Virginia teachers are preparing to strike today. They're opposed to a proposed new rule that would take money away from public schools and create the state's first charter schools. The strike comes almost a year after another walkout triggered over the increasing cost of healthcare premiums.        Meghan Markle is holding her baby shower in New York City. According to Page Six, the baby shower will take place today at an exclusive party at a hotel on the Upper East Side. Markle's best friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney is said to be hosting the festivities. Markle's first child with Prince Harry is due this spring.
