Authorities in the Dominican Republic believe gunmen intended to target someone else when they shot former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz. Ortiz suffered serious internal injuries from the shooting at a bar in Santo Domingo earlier this month. Police now say Ortiz was not the intended target. Instead, the would-be assassins wanted to kill a friend of Ortiz who was sitting near him at a bar and was dressed similarly.        The debate over reparations for the descendants of slaves is once again coming before lawmakers. Actor Danny Glover and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates testified in a House hearing arguing in favor of compensation for slavery. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also recently weighed in on the topic, saying that rights for black Americans have come far enough that it's made reparation unnecessary.       A United Nations report is calling the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi [[ ka-SHO-gee ]] a "deliberate, premeditated execution." The report finds that Saudi officials planned and carried out the attack. Khashoggi was reportedly killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey last October.        President Trump's Fourth of July celebration in Washington, DC will include military demonstrations and flyovers. The Washington Post reports one of the Boeing jetliners used as Air Force One will be included in the flyover over the nation's capital. Trump will also honor America's armed forces by giving remarks from the Lincoln Memorial.        Singer R. Kelly has one week to respond to a lawsuit from someone accusing him of sexual abuse or he could lose the fight. Kelly's lawyers are asking for the lawsuit be put on hold while the R & B singer fights criminal charges. A Cook County judge sided with the plaintiff, ordering Kelly's lawyers to file an official answer to the sexual abuse lawsuit.
