stuff i didn't get to on the show part 1
NFL draft recap...Patriots
10(10) Jerod Mayo OLB TENNESSEE From New Orleans Mayo has more upside than Rivers. He has very good top-end speed for his size, and although he lacks ideal strength, he explodes into hits. In addition, he's versatile enough to line up on the inside or the outside, depending on how a team wants to use him.
2 31(62) Terrence Wheatley CB COLORADO Wheatley is another example of a player with durability concerns;
(78) Shawn Crable OLB MICHIGAN From New Orleans Crable needs to do a better job reading his keys, and he can be a step late getting to the football. Additionally, he takes too many false steps in coverage. On the plus side, he has the size and speed to develop into a starting outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme and he should make early contributions in special teams.
3 31(94) Kevin O'Connell QB SAN DIEGO STATE He has prototypical size and is an above-average athlete. O'Connell has excellent and efficient feet with his drops, and the arm strength to make all the throws. He has shown the ability to buy time with his feet and does a nice job keeping his eyes down the field when flushed out of the pocket. However, he is still very raw and needs time to develop????????????????????
4 30(129) Jonathan Wilhite CB AUBURN Although Wilhite is susceptible to getting flagged for pass interference and defensive holding, there's a lot to like about his physical style of play. If he learns to play with better discipline, he could develop into an effective press corner for his size. He also has very good speed.
5 18(153) Matt Slater WR UCLA From Tampa Bay Slater went to UCLA as a wideout, got injured then moved to corner. As a result, he's raw and needs some time to work on his technique. Still, the Patriots do a great job of finding special teams players in the middle rounds, and Slater is an excellent special teams player and will fill that role in New England.
6 31(197) Bo Ruud OLB NEBRASKA He has good straight-line speed and also takes sound angles in pursuit. He is a solid open-field tackler, shows good instincts in zone coverage and good quickness when closing in coverage. He lacks ideal athleticism, though, and is stiff in the hips
RAIDERS>>>>wanting the next Adrian Peterson drafted Darren McFadden #4 overall....definitely not the safe pick (Glen Dorsey would've been safe)..but he has the biggest upside of any player in the draft..4th rounder Tyvon Branch CB from Uconn is a player just wrong position, Radiers did cut Dominic Rhoades this week. they also Picked up a DE from Buffalo Trevor Scott lined up at tight end for his first three seasons at Buffalo.
Chiefs great draft...Grabbed Dorsey 5th overall..Branden Albert OG VIRGINIA and Brandon Flowers CB Va Tech 3 possible starters..(took Undrafted QB-Ricky Santos)
Colts(s-Jamie Silva)...Hendricken's Matt Sherry to the Bengals via Villanova in the 6th round
Show Exclusion part 2
College Sportsmanship........With two runners on base and a strike against her, Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon University uncorked her best swing and did something she had never done, in high school or college. Her first home run cleared the center-field fence.
But it appeared to be the shortest of dreams come true when she missed first base, started back to tag it and collapsed with a knee injury.
She crawled back to first but could do no more. The first-base coach said she would be called out if her teammates tried to help her. Or, the umpire said, a pinch runner could be called in, and the homer would count as a single. .....Then, members of the Central Washington University softball team stunned spectators by carrying Tucholsky around the bases Saturday so the three-run homer would count - an act that contributed to their own elimination from the playoffs.
Central Washington first baseman Mallory Holtman, the career home run leader in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, asked the umpire if she and her teammates could help Tucholsky. ..The umpire said there was no rule against it. ...So Holtman and shortstop Liz Wallace put their arms under Tucholsky's legs, and she put her arms over their shoulders. The three headed around the base paths, stopping to let Tucholsky touch each base with her good leg
Nascar Note:
This was a great race weekend for the Big Boys in what has otherwise been a blah season.
Nationwide from Richmond Friday went to the local boy Denny Hamlin featured some hard racing, wrecks, and Kyle Busch postrace fireworks.
Sprint Saturday saw Hamlin dominate only succumb to a tire problem, a big wreck early and some especially hard racing from the most popular driver in the sport, Junior and Kyle Busch. The result were not fan friendly (that's the nice way to say it) Clint Bowyer Mr Steady got a win, and then more post race fireworks.
Finally Sunday's ARCA race was held at historic Rockingham Raceway, featured a great mix of drivers, and in the end "The Future" 17yr old Joey Logano made beating Nascar vet Ken Schrader look almost easy...
A great weekend indeed
